The Fox “Bridges” Program is an alternative high school in the Fox C-6 School District. Bridges works to assist at-risk students in maintaining academic progress while focusing on the student as a “whole” person learning additional behavioral, social, and motivational skills, which will allow him/her to become successful upon returning to the mainstream school setting. In this nontraditional educational program of high quality academic and life-skills preparedness, students are expected to succeed where conventional methods have failed.

Bridges offers its students the same curriculum that is used in the district’s two other traditional high schools. Bridges offers all core subjects and electives needed for students to meet requirements toward graduation in the state of Missouri. A multi-sensory approach to reading individual student needs is practiced. The difference with Bridges is in the delivery system of the subject information. Computer technology is utilized in all the classrooms. Our computer-based curriculum Anywhere Learning System (ALS) is our delivery system utilized to meet the academic needs and learning styles of all learners at our school. We offer our students individualized instruction and small group instruction in all of our classes. In other school districts that have utilized the ALS system, it has met the learning needs of many at-risk students who may not have succeeded as well, if at all, in a traditional or standard high school setting.

Potential students will be contracted by their respective principals for consideration for Bridges. The school year schedule is the same starting, ending, holiday, and snow day schedule in the Fox C-6 School District. The small size of the school enables the staff to create a climate of belonging, generosity, mastery, and independence. The staff strives to establish a personal, caring relationship with each student through their classes and interaction.

Only students who demonstrate a commitment to change and personal growth will be considered to attend Bridges. These young people have taken a courageous step in choosing to leave the comprehensive high school, and they have done so with the goals of improving their academic standing and graduating from an accredited Fox C-6 District high school. It is expected that Bridges will be successful and expand its efforts to help students who have failed to succeed in more traditional educational settings, graduate and move on to college, jobs, or military service.
